Assume you are registered for the team you choose unless you are notified differently. Rainy/Snowy Weather — GOTR teams will meet regardless of the weather, UNLESS the schools close. | Friends! Fun! a 5K! Girls on the Run of Nebraska combines all these elements to promote healthy lifestyles and self-respect among pre-teen girls. Our nonprofit organization uses a nationally standardized curriculum that incorporates exercise, education and mentoring to create a positive athletic experience for young girls. The twice-weekly sessions feature running games and other activities to train participants for the season-ending 5K event. Along the way, the girls learn about themselves, their teammates and their roles in the community. Break away from the pack of ordinary after-school programs and let your daughter find out for herself why "Girls on the Run Is So Much Fun!" Girls on the Run teams meet for one hour twice weekly for two months to play interactive running games. Lessons on valuable life skills -- teamwork, health, wellness, communication and goal-setting -- are incorporated with the physical training so participants get much more than exercise. The curriculum provides a unique forum for girls to discuss and make choices about physical fitness, good eating habits, values, body image and saying “no” to drugs. Completing a Girls on the Run program can be a valuable first step toward a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living. Our special “Girls Only” club uses cheers, camaraderie, small prizes and positive feedback to promote self-worth and confidence among participants. We know that every girl is a “Superstar,” whether she runs fast or not. Our noncompetitive program celebrates the unique strengths of each girl as she strives to do her personal best. We value positive attitudes and perseverance over running ability. At Girls on the Run, we strive to make last place feel like first because we want girls to pursue an active lifestyle long after they complete the program. Girls on the Run sessions begin September and March. For a listing of our seasonal locations, click LINCOLN AREA, OMAHA AREA or OTHER SITES. |
